This post is dedicated to all new Dad’s.
Last week my husband and I were pretty chuffed when our first ever pram arrived. We found our ‘Christmas-day-like’ joy quite bizarre and shared a moment of bewilderment as to why the arrival of the pram made us so excited.
I think for me, it was a symbol that after what has seemed like a very long journey, our dream of having a baby is finally coming to fruition.
For Ryan I think it’s the fact that the pram is like the car of the baby world. It’s something that husbands can get excited about. It’s something they can actively research, putting prior knowledge of suspension, tyre tread, weather shields and handling to good use.
When we got home Ryan busied himself putting it together, ensuring that all of the promoted features of extended handles, hand-brake, front wheel suspension and reclining seat were in working order. Then, we both took turns wheeling the empty pram around the lounge room and down the hallway. We live in a terrace so there really isn’t much room to test drive. And now, the pram sits like a prized possession in our lounge room, next to my desk. Every time I look at it I get butterflies of excitement.
However I do admit that our excitement over the pram, while lovely and unexpected, pales into insignificance against the excitement demonstrated by the Dad inventor of the ‘world’s fastest pram.’
Yep, proving my point that prams are like the cars of the baby world, 33-year-old Colin Furze has created the world’s fastest pram which reaches a top speed of 80km/hour. A pretty unhealthy speed if you ask me.
Now, before we notify the parenting authorities, Colin does only use a doll in his demonstration and I am using my faith in human kind to reassure myself that this is all in good fun. Surely no-one actually intends to use a super charged pram to transport a baby.
